According to Stoker's wife, Florence Balcombe, this short story was originally the first chapter of Bram Stoker's Dracula. This 'deleted' chapter of the world-famous novel was not published until 1914, two years after Bram Stoker's death. The protagonist of the story is seemingly Jonathan Harker from Stoker's novel. Count Dracula makes a brief appearance at the end of the story, which centres on the horrible events of Walpurgis Night. ‘This lost’ first chapter of Dracula is introduced by author and actor Tim Dalgleish. Horror and weird tales of the dark side of life were a wonderful sideline for Stoker, and this story shines a light on his first attempts to render his most famous character into a breathing, if not living, character!
