The Melungeon sisters of the Oxendine family must learn how to find themselves, while remaining true to their roots and the principles of their overprotective father. After the death of their youngest sister, they find themselves haunted by her spirit, which has become wise beyond her physical years. Though they each try to leave home, they slowly realize after various misfortunes of failed romances and troublesome city life that they are bound to their father’s land and the superstitions of their heritage.
