A new edition of Margaret Oliphant's classic supernatural ghost novel, A Beleaguered City, originally published in 1880. Margaret Oliphant (1828-1897) was an extremely prolific and popular Scottish novelist and historical writer, who was one of the most popular and acclaimed writers of the 19th century. Her novels were typically characterized by their realistic portrayals of domestic life. She also wrote several works of historical fiction as well as ghost, horror, and supernatural stories. Her most notable works include Miss Marjoribanks (1866), Hester (1873), The Mystery of Mrs. Blencarrow (1890), Kirsteen (1890), Queen Eleanor and Fair Rosamund (1886), and the ghost/supernatural works The Open Door, A Beleaguered City, and The Library Window.
