“Death by Sunshine: Five Weird Tales” contains a selection of short horror stories, all set in England during the summer season. Focussing on domestic bliss that is suddenly shattered by unexpected and gruesome events, the collection centralises the destructive passions of everyday people. Infused with dark humour throughout, the tales within merge slapstick narrative with chilling moments of terror. “Summer Breeze” focuses on an academic specialising in early modern witchcraft, whereas “Mr Oodles” is a story about a talking honey badger. “The 17:15 from London Bridge” focuses on a strange, unworldly passenger and “More Bacon, Dear?” is about a plumber who likes bacon. Finally, “The Death of Thelma Todd” is essentially a pseudo-biography of an actress from the 1930s coupled to a reimagining of Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus.” But above all, it’s a nightmare... Stephanie Roberti has been writing for years, although this is her first collection of horror stories. She lives in England, during the summer months, where she is a full-time writer and mousetrap maker. You can’t follow her on social media.
