It's just be another day in northeastern Oregon where the detectives are few and the missing are many. Summertime has come to the small towns, melting the last of the snow and bringing warm nights to the blissful residents that live in the shadows of the Elkhorn Mountain range. Just a stop on the freeway for most travelers, Baker City becomes a trap for Maryann Sonnefeld and her accidental companion as they stumble into saving the world over coffee and toast. Maryann might figure out if she's on the right side of the fight, or she might screw it all up; given the chance, she'd continue on the trip to Portland and leave the moral debate to someone more qualified. Unfortunately, she made one mistake, and ran out of chances on her way out of town. Rich old mining houses, haunted hotels, boutiques and bars--Baker City really isn't such a bad place, as long as you don't plan to leave.
