High school student Kara has been quickly losing her ability to see since she was a child. Almost completely blind, she decides to undergo a newly approved surgery that promises to restore vision to near normal. When she regains consciousness in the recovery room, the nurse tells her everything went well. But when no one comes back to check on her, Kara has no choice but to take matters into her own hands. Alone, in pain, and unable to see, Kara feels her way through the empty hospital in search of a nurse, a doctor, anyone.Note: This is the first in a series of short stories, not a novel. Word count is 6,500 and average read time is about 20 minutes. Perfect to pass time at an oil change, cram in some suspense on a lunch break, or take with you to a doctor's waiting room...
