In an alternate past, the Empire of Giammarcoro has greatly expanded its borders. To honours its great generals, the Empire gives grants of land over which its soldiers can govern. When Darien takes up control of the City of Ur, it seems like a dream come true. For years he lives with his wife and family, but the peace of Ur is soon broken by a new brand of night demons that terrorize his city. In a final attempt to free his city from the demon spawn, Darien is slain, and the kingdom is left to the control of his two rival sons - Seth and Jason. This rivalry carries on through both life and death, as Seth is dragged into a fearful symmetry between human and demon, darkness and light - propelled by fate and the hate of his brother.
