As a deadly virus raged through a small industrial town in the north of England, Detective Daniel Gray has failed on a child killer case by letting five innocent children die at the hands of a monster. But now, his shredded reputation is the least of his worries as he tries to pick up the pieces of his professional career. Just weeks after the ‘Pig Tail’ murders he is faced with another killer, one who is removing internal organs from his victims and leaving no physical evidence, not even blood. Tasked with finding the murderer alongside his new inexperienced partner from London, the young detectives must discover the horrific link between the murders and the true nature of the Necrovirus before it is too late. Pretty soon the two become entangled in a decaying world whilst the British government do whatever it takes to contain the virus within the Tees Valley area. However, when the Necrovirus starts to mutate and have unusual necrotising effects on their unsuspecting human host, the military are forced to take more extreme measures before the viruses’ true potential is realised. The book follows four very flawed characters in their attempt to escape the Tees Valley area, whilst striving to find what it means to be human in a world which is ending. A disgraced detective, an alcoholic police officer, a failing microbiologist and a teenage girl whose father is by all definitions a paedophilic monster, come together in a twist of fate as they try to escape the deadly Necrovirus and the creatures it creates.
