If you like a super creepy read with mystery & intrigue, then this supernatural novel could be the book for you!!Effie Farraday has nightmares about Gilbert, the old ventriloquist’s dummy, who is supposed to be safely tucked away in the attic at her family home of Rawlings. Why is Gilbert tormenting her? What does it mean?Gideon is a fictional character that Effie has somehow conjured up in her dreams. But then how has Gideon suddenly appeared to her in the street, in broad daylight, with a chilling warning? When a ghostly woman materialises in her kitchen, with murderous intent, Effie realises that there's more to these dreams than meets the eye. To seek out the truth she must leave her world behind, and travel to an otherworld, full of folklore, where hidden dangers are lurking nearby. However, it is also extremely captivating, and Effie is soon totally immersedin her blissful new way of life with Gideon. But why do all the inhabitants act so strangely towards Effie? And what's the closely guarded secret that everyone's keeping from her?As the disturbing truth gradually begins to unravel,Effie must leave Gideon and return home to Rawlings, expecting everything to be normal, but is shocked to discover she must suffer the consequences for her time away. As she learns more about the otherworld, Effie feels her life spiralling out of control, and it's a sudden race against time to prevent someone close to her from being harmed. Is it too late for Effie to put the situation right? Will she ever see Gideon again? And will she finally be able to lead a normal life, or will fate intervene? In my dream the moon shone down, bathing the forest in a muted blue, never before had I seen it looking so lovely. However, I then noticed a thick mist rolling in from nowhere, covering the place in darkness. As I stared over towards the trees, I could see a figure gradually emerging from the fog. But my happiness soon turned to terror as I realised it wasn’t Gideon at all, it was a thing, a horrid thing created especially for the worst of nightmares. Aghast I watched as it slowly shuffled along, its wooden joints creaking. It came nearer and nearer until it was standing directly in front of me, its eyes upon me, frighteningly wide and cold looking. It was Gilbert.‘Greetings Miss Farraday.’Feeling frozen with fear, I opened my mouth to scream but found myself unable to utter a single word, it almost seemed a muffle had been placed over my mouth. The dummy glared at me with his dark stony eyes. ‘It’s been far too long since we last saw one another.’ Excerpt from - The Life and Dreams of Effie Farraday
