The Raven's Shadow (The Wild Hunt Book 3)

The Raven's Shadow, the third book of Elspeth Cooper's The Wild Hunt series finds war brewing on both sides of the Veil between the worlds. The desert of Gimrael is aflame with violence, and in the far north an ancient hatred is about to spill over into the renewal of a war that, a thousand years ago, forged an empire. This time, it may shatter one.Wrestling with his failing grip on the power of the Song, and still trying to come to terms with the horrifying events he witnessed in El Maqqam, Gair returns to the mainland with only one thing on his mind: vengeance. It may cost him his life, but when everything that he had to live for is being stripped away from him, that may be a fair price to pay.Old friends and old foes converge in a battle of wills to stem the tide of the Nimrothi clans as they charge south to reclaim the lands lost in the Founding Wars. If they succeed, the rest of the empire may be their next target. And with the Wild Hunt at their head, the overstretched Imperial Army may not be enough to stop them.At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

From Booklist

In The Shadow of the Raven, the Nimrothi, led by the speaker, Ytha, and her puppet chief, Drwyn, are prepared to start their invasion. Gair, losing his grip on the Song, returns to the mainland from the desert of Gimrael, where his mentor died. Gair questions his own decisions and wallows in guilt. Tanith and her abusive ex-lover, Ailric, have come from Astolar with words of warning. They, along with each of the other characters, join the warlord in the mountain fortress, where a meager defense will muster. Teia, speaker for the Lost Ones, makes it through the mountains to warn the warlord of the Nimrothi invasion and to tell them that there is only one hope for victory—the Iron Men, the knights, must stand and fight. The knights have not ridden to battle in decades, and there are none to guard the fortresses. All seems hopeless, but this is merely the opening battle in a war. Cooper has set up a rather fantastic world, and the conclusion to this epic in a projected fourth volume should be spectacular. --Regina Schroeder

Kirkus Reviews

“This installment ramps up the tension, with plenty of gory action, Cooper's usual high level of characterization, and controlled plotting that, while showing few original touches, rolls solidly along. An excellent addition to this superior epic.”
