SENSE AND SENSIBILITY

Sense and Sensibility is a novel by Jane Austen, published in 1811. When first released, it was published anonymously: “By A Lady” appears on the title page where the author's name might have been. It tells the story of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne and Margaret, as they come of age in Regency England. The novel is set in Southwest England, London, and Sussex, likely between 1792 and 1797.The Dashwood sisters grew up with their family on estate known as Norland Park, but their father has died, and left the estate only to their half-brother John, so the women had to seek a new home. They rent a modest home called Barton College on the property of a distant relative, Sir John Middleton. Marianne and Elinor experience love and heartbreak in this staple of classic fiction that has been adored by readers for over a century. Through coming-of-age experience of love and its loss or threatened loss the sisters grow awareness for the fact that if they are to truly find happiness, sense and sensibility must be mixed in equal parts especially in a society where money and status are impact even the notions of love and relationships.
