JACKET SUMMARYBarre Vermont has some violent history; at least the legendary fistfight between two well-known citizens to establish its name is well documented. It is mild compared to a series of untoward events that indicate a modern connection with the prince of darkness. While visiting Barre, a year ago, Jason Allen was awestruck by the almost excessive number of beautiful and lifelike granite statues throughout the city, as well as the prominence of Italian names associated with that industry. Now he and his wife, Janice, find themselves innocently dragged into and deeply involved with a plan and a monster, intent on destroying her dear Aunt Jessica, and them, too, if necessary.A mutual friend, Antonio, unites them with an old classmate, Michael, who lives in Barre and helps them uncover and deal with a secret combination of evil forces and doers that includes: the hostess and host of a prominent BnB, an ex-cop, the granite industry, stone sculpting artists and their creations, the place and its prince, and even a family member. Past experiences and relationships, both haunting and heartwarming, knit the sometimes familiar and sometimes strange events together . . . but into what sort of web and outcome?Oh yes! Technically minded readers could find this interesting. Analysis is good . . . a story doesn't have to be all emotion and adventure. Science and manufacturing can be fun, too. Just ask an Engineer
