Sins of the Fathers

Sins of the Fathers

Joe D’Angelo’s life is turned upside down early one morning when he receives a phone call from a confused, desperate old man looking for his doctor. After fifteen minutes of back and forth, the line goes suddenly dead, leaving D’Angelo with the dilemma of what to do next.Concerned that something might have happened to the old man, he decides to go check on him. What he finds is an old WWI army veteran and a small, old house haunted by the horrors of the past. D’Angelo soon understands that the old man’s call had been no ‘wrong number’ and that there was a reason he was there. In the span of the next three days, the old man, Kieran O’Donnell, tells D’Angelo the long, sordid story of his forebears; of their corruption, their many unpunished sins and of the hurt and destruction they brought to the lives of so many, including O’Donnell himself.Set in Toronto and spanning much of Canada’s twentieth century, “Sins of the Fathers” is a compelling tale in which fate draws unlikely protagonists into a series of horribly destructive encounters and challenges the reader with fundamental questions about justice, contrition and reconciliation.
