Mourning Gray

Cassandra Wynstrom is naively swept into her town's ploy to set a prophecy in motion: to begin the next war against the Empians, a deadly race that discovered a way to spawn vampires before thier own extinction. Haunted by both beautiful and terrible visions, Cassandra understands she must seek the sacred Temple that holds powerful gemstones, something a spirit has instructed her to do before its secrets are lost forever. Cassandra doesn´t know who this spirit is, but she feels the gemstones reach out to her in way that can´t be ignored. And she must defeat her arch nemesis, the last surviving Empian named Lharkin. When Cassandra discovers that the same Temple she needs to get to is the same one that belongs to the Empians, she finally succumbs to Lharkin's seduction and becomes one of his kind. But in doing so, she realizes she is falling in love with him. Traveling from 1880 North America to one of the islands of Madeira where the powerful Temple awaits, Cassandra knows she cannot help Lharkin defeat the humans who are coming for her rescue, yet she can't accept her prophecy of destroying Lharkin and his followers, either. She decides there is only one way to stop it all: redeem Lharkin's soul from darkness, before the war begins, so that he could cease his terrible plans... However, in her quest to save his spirit, she discovers, when it is too late, how dark and dangerous this venture becomes.
