A graphic anthology of tales featuring collaborations between established writers and artists and debut contributors, The Lovecraft Anthology showcases Lovecrafts talent for the macabre. From the insidious mutations of The Shadow over Innsmouth to the mindbending threat of The Call of Cthulhu, this collection explores themes of insanity, inherited guilt, and arcane ritual to startling effect. Praise for The Lovecraft Anthology: Volume I:"When a graphic novel comes along representing some of Lovecrafts greatest tales, it has a lot to live up to. Im happy to say that the graphic novel compilation The Lovecraft Anthology, Vol. 1 provides the goods." GeekDad.com
From Booklist
The second passel of Lovecraft adaptations by European comics creators is a mite more successful than the first. The artwork, as strong as in the earlier collection, again looks fundamentally like Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, with its restricted palette and dark-but-definite contrast, and this time no script is tripped up by Lovecraft’s overwrought vocabulary and imagery. The tales chosen for rendering are all minor Lovecraft, though “Pickman’s Model,” about an artist of the horrific, is a fan favorite, and Attila Futaki’s très murky portrayal of “The Nameless City,” so reminiscent of the great Czech animator Jan Švankmajer’s creepiest films—Faust, Little Otik—is something special, indeed. --Ray Olson
