This is a story of spiritual adventure in Tibet. Soldiers of the People's Liberation Army have crossed the border from China to Tibet, destroying Buddhist monasteries and killing monks in their path. One monk and a few of his novices escape into the wilderness. There they face their fate in the celebration of the Chöd, the Mystic Banquet.The Chöd is real. It is a ritual of Tibetan Buddhism that taps the power of terror to cut off the ego from the demons of ignorance and hate. In offering the body to these demons, the celebrant empties himself and confirms that even existence itself is an illusion.
