A bear is suspected after four members of a small coal mining town in West Virginia are savagely attacked and slain. With the help of two townspeople, four teen-aged friends learn that a werewolf is responsible for the brutal killings. After Tammy, one of the teen-agers is attacked and nearly killed, she begins keeping a journal and most of the story is told from her point of view. The journal begins with seven teen-agers laying a trap for the werewolf and waiting for him to show up. After that confrontation, Tammy tells the story of what led up to the creature's discovery and their plan to stop him.
