Echo Monn is a college student with a problem. He's been having visions of himself killing people. One of his professors had written a book about a man that seemed to have a similar condition. That book was called Tortured Souls. In it, the professor postulates that when we die, our souls go back into another that is being born. Some of the souls are so corrupt that they are pure evil. The visions are from the past killers the souls have belonged to. Some are the most famous killers in world history. The soul gives these visions to the occupants, in order to get them to kill. if they do not abide, they get more frequent until they are driven mad. The professor theorizes that if one Tortured Soul kills another, they destroy that soul for good. A man named Kevin murders another person with the same condition in a sleep clinic and absorbs his power. He is now hell bent on hunting down the others to obtain the power they all possess. Echo sets out to align himself with the remaining tortured souls in order to help him kill Kevin and stop him from eliminating them all. The battle for survival is on as they all struggle to maintain their humanity while being berated by their own tortured souls.
