In Purgatory, the dead relive their most monotonous day alive, ignorant of their deaths. When the moon rises, they awaken to their truths and mourn their losses until the sun banishes them back into their monotonous graves. Over-and-over again this pattern repeats until the day they move on; some people go to Heaven, others go to Hell, but no one stays in Purgatory forever... except Miles.Miles is a therapist in Boston's Purgatory trying to help people move on. In exchange for a powerful prism that allows his clients to recognize they’re dead, he becomes a Soul Shepherd. At night, his consciousness leaves his body and travels to the Spirit World where he collects the souls of the recently departed and shepherds them to Purgatory. In the daytime, he works with a flock of men that died of the Gay Cancer in the 1980’s and have been stuck in blissfully ignorant Purgatory Loops ever since. After touching Miles’ prism, however, they revert back to the final stages of Full-Blown-AIDS and begin suffering for the first time since their deaths. With the help of the mysterious Reprievement Crystal, Judy Garland, and a few other angels, Miles searches for a way to relieve their pain and bring hope to a despairing world.
