During the Great Depression, Robert Williams inherits a small fortune from his father and purchases the Avington Manor, a Civil War era hotel, where his family then resides: his wife Katherine and his two children, Jim and Emily. The hotel served as a Confederate hospital, and Robert soon discovers that ghosts haunt the premises. He becomes increasingly involved with the ghosts at the hotel and even more so with Helen, a woman abandoned by her husband during the war. Robert must confront his fears to unravel the secrets of the old hotel. He makes a heroic attempt to help Helen cross over to the other side, but not without dire consequences.
