Kalika and her consort, Rudra, ancient goddess and god of time and destruction, have spent eons feeding on the souls of the desperately hopeful, always doing exactly what, and who, they wish. But when a powerful wizard traps them in a most unexpected way, they learn how painful it is to hope, and what must be sacrificed in order to be free.Excerpt: It was dark for a moment in the little house by the sea, but Rudra could see. His eyes drank in Kalika as she truly was, as she was always meant to be. Wild hair moved like waves, tangled around her head, dark skin shone with the inner light of a devoured soul, breasts heaving, hips undulating, she danced towards him with her dark eyes shining. He smiled at her and asked as he always did, “And how is it, my goddess, my Kalika? Does it fill you up as you had hoped? Are you still hungry?” She grabbed his head between her warm palms and kissed him like she always did, and pressed her body against his and felt his hardness stirring against her belly. He could taste the last bits of the bright girl’s soul as it slid down her throat and his long tongue followed as far as it could. Kalika laughed against his mouth as she felt his searching tongue probe her throat and she wrapped her hand around the stiffness between his legs.
