Death Before My Eyes

Death Before My Eyes is a work of Young Adult Fiction/Fantasy/ with a Supernatural twist and is set in the mid 90’s. The protagonist of my book, Damian DeMarco, is a troubled teen who has grown up in a dysfunctional family. This is mainly due to his abusive alcoholic father, who ultimately is the cause of his mother’s untimely death. Now alone in the world, Damian’s own alcoholic tendencies begin to push him over the edge. This results in his attack on another local boy, Mateo Sanchez, a bright and soft-spoken Chicano kid, who he had publicly bullied for years. Now, in a coma, Mateo learns that there is truly life after death when his soul travels to a spiritual realm where he awaits his final fate. Damian, now facing attempted murder charges, is sentenced to serve time at California Youth Authority, a prison for under age offenders. Now feeling more alone than ever, Damian faces a life changing experience when his soul is also catapulted into the afterlife. Only now, it might be too late for the remorse of his prior life’s sins.

About the Author

Jessica De La Cruz is a Mexican-American Author born in Napa, California. She earned her B.S. in Human Resources Management and has been in the pharmaceutical industry by profession for the past fifteen years. She is a life-long resident of Northern California and besides her love for reading and writing, she enjoys spending time with her family and planning weekend getaways as often as possible. As far back as high school, Jessica aspired to one day become a published author. However, between a career, attending college, and raising a family, this dream was put on hold for some years. Finally, after much dedication and many early mornings, she was at last able to make her dreams a reality by writing her first book, Death Before My Eyes,a work of YA Fiction/Fantasy. This was accomplished at the end of 2018.
