His first published works appeared in 1895, with THE KING IN YELLOW earning him high praise. Other works in the weird genre followed, but none equaled the success of his first effort. By the 1910s, Chambers had largely abandoned weird fiction, turning instead to romance to pay the bills. His weird works were much admired by H.P. Lovecraft and inspired later generations of writers.
