A few years after the events of the Antarctica Expedition, ecologist JP Beauregard is contacted by an old war buddy named Frank Edsel who is a wealthy man despite the country being in the depths of the Great Depression. Edsel has a business proposal for Beauregard and several of his other friends from the war who all knew the man when he was a simple supply sergeant. All of the men accept the invitation to a lavish weekend retreat on the millionaire's personal island off the coast of New Hampshire, most hoping to find a lifeline that will keep them fed and clothed. Meanwhile JP has a bone to pick with Frank after hearing reports from men under Beauregard's command, as a young Army lieutenant, that the supply sergeant had been involved in dubious dealings while they'd been stationed in Liberia during the war. But nothing he has witnessed thus far can prepare JP for what will befall him on that remote island.
