When Gary Vogel accidentally runs over a cat belonging to the mysterious Mrs. Audegarde he expects to pay for a replacement. What he doesn't expect is to be cursed and subjected to a frightening vendetta where the only way out is to make a bargain with pure evil. (A short story of 5,000 words)Excerpts from Furry Friends: Mrs. Audegarde was laughing. “Oh you’ll pay Vogel. You’ll pay. I told you the price already. How many more times…?” “But why?” She grabbed his wrist and the strength of the old woman’s grip stunned him. She twisted until he cried out and then pushed him away from her. “Its in my nature.” Mrs Audegarde said. Gary wiped his hand over his forehead. It came away wet. He scanned the room. An old figurine that looked as if it were made of bronze stood on one of the bookcases. “I wouldn’t if I were you.” Mrs Audegarde said.---------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Gary was out of the car on their front driveway he looked over at the Audegarde woman’s house. It being November and dark already, the lights were on in her lounge and through the curtains he could see her silhouette move across the room and it seemed as if there were shadows of things, as immaterial as smoke, dancing around her. “I’ll talk to Mrs Audegarde first thing in the morning.” He said. “Please Gary I want this resolved before my parents arrive tomorrow.” “It can wait until the morning Molly.” He said and walked over to the porch steps. “I think she has company.” When Molly looked over at the house across the street she saw the lights go out.
