Broken Silence is the story of a family, living reclusively in the middle of the woods in the year 1970. The patriarch, Lionel Blackwood, for years, has kept a firm grip on his family’s privacy, never allowing his children to stray away from their house nor allowing them to know anything about the world outside the woods at all. Their entire family routine structure is suddenly broken when they receive an unexpected knock at the door by local officer Holden Baker.Baker’s wife, Sandra, is suffering from lung cancer and the family has been unexpectedly invited to a fundraising party in her honor. Fearful of their exposure, Lionel disregards the invitation, leaving Holden suspicious of their family’s anonymity. He had heard rumors of their existence, though many in the nearest town of Quail Oaks believed the house to be abandoned, perhaps haunted.Baker’s appearance at the house also sparks the curiosity of Lionel’s daughter, Clara, who at the age of eighteen patiently awaits to leave the nest at her parent’s approval. In fact, she has secretly been communicating with a young man from her bedroom window. One night grants her the opportunity to finally see the outside world for herself… and discover that the real horror her father preaches may actually be inside their house all along.
