Apocrypha

After three years of marriage, it's easy to forget he is a fugitive. Making coffee, doing laundry and walking the dog are distracting enough, notwithstanding regular sex. He's never had love before, in-laws, a family. He likes Christmas presents, birthdays, anniversaries ... cake. He loves having Sophie to share them with. Every year he escapes notice could be their last. He wishes she didn't know it, but to love him she had to. He knows she loves him. Even if she doesn't trust him. Suspects him. Drinks. In spite of everything he's said, she knows he hasn't told all. How can he, when he doesn't trust himself to tell it? Still, he has no regrets. His prayers have been answered. He finally has a life and the fear he could lose it all; to alcohol, to divorce, to death. Fear he could lose a life he isn't supposed to have and the love of a woman he isn't supposed to know. Fallen from grace, he knows everything has a price and for Sophie he will pay. Now, he prays she doesn't pay with him.
