When an exhibit on Ancient Egypt comes to town, the Black Cat Club races to check it out. With its painted caskets and ancient mummies, what better place to find a ghost? Even Mittens the cat sneaks in for a peek. But the club gets more than it bargains for when a 7,000 year-old cat mummy disappears from the museum—and lazy Mittens turns into growling, hissing, dog-chasing terror. Is it just a coincidence? Or has Mittens been struck by . . . the curse of the cat mummy?
From School Library Journal
Grade 2-4?In this third installment in this early chapter book series, Saunders reacquaints readers with "The Black Cat Club," comprised of Sam; Robert; Belinda; her little brother, Andrew; and their spectral partner, Alice. Sam convinces the group to visit the "Mysteries of Ancient Egypt" exhibit at the County Museum. Though Alice tries to thwart their entrance, the kids explore the show with Andrew succeeding in smuggling in his cat, Mittens. When Mittens touches the cat mummy nose to nose, he immediately falls into a trance. In the following days, the news reports that the mummy is missing and a series of disasters have ensued all over town lead by a demonic Mittens. Alice alerts the club members to the mummy hiding in a closet at Belinda and Andrew's house, discovers the possessed Mittens attempting to smother Andrew, and lures the evil feline into the closet by dressing as the god Anubis. A battle ensues; when the dust settles, Mittens is returned to normal, and the mummy is reduced to a ball of rags tied together with a bow. Kids will love this exotic mystery.?Christina Dorr, Calcium Primary School, NYCopyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.
