Novella (25k words) Psychological horror / suspense / ghost story – Return to Halcyon Beach where sixty years ago a notorious murder/suicide took place in the lighthouse. Artist Fleur Laighton moved to Halcyon Beach because it was a favorite vacation spot of her late father's and because her friend Darby finds a winter rental for her. Hanging out at the Snuggle Inn's Pub, Fleur is fascinated by the Geezers tales of the ill-fated romance between Cicely Walcott and the lighthouse-keeper that lead to their tragic ends. She also meets the lover of her dreams, handsome, sexy Mitch St. Pierre. But now there is a strange woman showing up in her paintings – and in person when her lover is around. (Volume Two in the Halcyon Beach Chronicles. Volume One is Ghosts of a Beach Town in Winter.)

"There's the Snuggle Inn." Darby shaded his eyes. Seagulls soared by below us and the waves rolled in layer after layer along the miles of beaches sweeping away both north and south. The balcony was about three feet wide and was protected by an iron fence that came only to my waist. I've never minded heights but I noticed Darby looked pale and was staying close to the tower wall. We inched our way around until we were directly over where the cliff dropped off to the ocean. "Geez," I said, leaning over for a better look, "Clay was right. If you jumped off here you'd go straight into the water." "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, don't look down you're making me sick." Darby leaned back against the wall. "That's the Isles of Shoals." They looked like a string of pearls glittering on the horizon. "I wish I'd thought to bring binoculars." "I've had enough," Darby said. "I'm going back down." There was a long dark strip of land on the northern horizon. "I bet that's Maine," I said. "It's not worth it." "Oh, I love it. I'll come up here a lot." I turned but Darby was gone. "Darby?" Even though the day was warm and sunny I felt a chill and I stepped back into the tower. Darby was already halfway down the steps. "Darby?" I heard his feet clanging on the steps but he couldn't hear me. I turned back to the door, hesitated, then pushed it shut and slid the bolt into place. I thought about the words, "It's not worth it." I could swear it was a woman's voice.
