Alyssa Ashworth is the heiress to the throne, but she finds herself hesitant to accept it after rescuing a child from a horrifying cult that sacrifices children to a bloody red moon. Viccus Romungard, cousin of Alyssa and the royal librarian, must deal with his dark past of meddling with demonic magic in order to be helpful in this time of unrest. And in the meantime, a shining star falls on a distant swamp, as a fugitive angel seeks shelter in a mortal vessel. Ultimately, the celestial being cannot simply lay low, and finds himself involved in the events unfolding around the royal family, as an ancient vampire seeks to destroy the kingdom in its vulnerable state.
