A story prompted by a story-writing challenge from the author's elderly aunt who suggested they each spin a compelling yarn involving small-town newspaper reporters (their alter-egos) who stumble upon clues to a major scandal in the works. "The Haunting of Dunmore Gap" is the author's answer to the challenge, a story that begins with a spine-chilling warning of a curse enounced at a town council meeting by an eccentric old woman, a recluse living on the outskirts of Dunmore Gap, who is thought to be a witch. Rarely seen in public, the Widow Bramford warns the townspeople against a misguided plan to move the graves of the founding brothers to make way for a new hotel. Ignoring the warning, the council votes in favor of the venture, and soon after the fearsome hauntings begin to terrorize the town. But one rookie reporter suspects something fishy might be going on, something less otherworldly and more earth-bound and scurrilous.
