An Iron Age Fantasy, with heart. “The fates manipulate our lives, causing things, sometimes good and sometimes bad. We can’t stop them, they work to make us bitter, but we’re not powerless. We can do something. We can not let the bastards win.” Ariase Howarth is a young woman who is raped by slavers in a grove sacred to a race known as Ulflings. Gnarth, her reluctant Ulfling rescuer, is on a quest to find… something. Now he not only has to discover what he’s meant to be looking for, and find what he’s meant to find, he also has a young woman to look after until he can find somebody else to look after her. Rescuing her was an imposition he didn’t need, except through it, the rescuer might have rescued himself. Lucian Taon is a loyal Praetorian from an old and well-respected Theolympian family, except he’s not Theolympian. Charged with protecting the Theolympian Emperor, when an assassination attempt pulls him into the deadly realm of Theolympian court politics, the protector becomes in need of protection. Meanwhile, unseen forces conspire to manipulate the lives, and perhaps the deaths, of all of them, drawing them into a hidden destiny for an unknown purpose. _____ You’ve probably already noticed that this book has adult themes. Even though I haven’t included any rape scenes, it’s mentioned and its effects are something that Ariase has to deal with. Please, if you’re uneasy with these themes, you might be better served getting one of my other titles.
