The Great God Pan

A new edition of Arthur Machen's classic horror novella, The Great God Pan, originally published in a magazine in 1890 and as a book in 1894. The story begins a young woman undergoing an experiment that allows her to see the supernatural world, followed by a series of mysterious events and deaths. Upon publication, The Great God Pan was highly controversial due to its horrific content, but it eventually came to be respected as a ground-breaking work in the horror genre, combining aspects of Gothic with science fiction, and influencing other horror writers like Bram Stoker, H. P. Lovecraft, and Stephen King.Arthur Machen (1863 – 1947) was the pen-name of Welsh writer Arthur Llewellyn Jones, one of the best known and most influential authors of supernatural, fantasy, and horror fiction. He is best known for his novella The Great God Pan (1890), considered by many to the “best horror story in the English language.”
