Down Highways in the Dark... By Demons Driven

Legends and old wives tales hold a truth–but we've forgotten the chaos that lies behind them. Strange worlds and creatures lie all around us. Humanity was once a slave, and is still the prey of creatures no one dreamed existed. The universe is much darker and stranger than we can ever imagine. Our world borders a multiverse and the walls are dangerously thin. Now, it is collapsing, a seething abyss is swarming in, and nothing will ever be the same again. Some children are adepts–mutants that have developed powers even they don't understand. But there is precious little time for them to learn the truth. No one is your friend, there is no help and there is no way out.

From the Inside Flap

Santafroze, then slowly he turned around. Bulging bloodshot eyes, theirises a glistening orange, locked on him. Yellowish-green drooltrailed from the corners of his mouth, intermingling with the darkcrimson stains garnishing the beard below. His mouth opened, a sea ofred, and a deep, guttural groan emerged. Timothy's jaw dropped, ashrill scream leapt out, and he turned, scampering up the stairs twoat a time.Slamminghis door, he fidgeted with the lock. Fixing it in place, he flew overto the closet, hashing through the shoes in search of his snowsuitand boots. There was the sound of a door opening abruptly, followedby his dad's shrill voice. "Hey,what's going on... Who are... Aaaaaahhh..." Therewas a sickening snap followed by a thick gurgling sound. "Ohmy god! Pete! No... Stay back..." Asecond, even more grisly crunch. Then... silence. Timothy pulled onhis undergarments, followed by his snowsuit. He dug his boots out andwas pulling them on when he heard a scraping sound. Pausing midstride, left boot half on, he froze and listened. It was wet, repetitive. He strained his hearing further. It continued, and ahorrible thought gripped him. That'sthe sound I make gnawing on a chicken wing! Pullingthe boot on, heart beating a million miles an hour, he headed for thewindow. Then he heard a door creak open, and the sleepy voice of hissister. "Mom?Is that you?"
