HARM NONE: A Rowan Gant Investigation (Book 1) THE WITCH AND THE DEAD… They say dead men tell no tales. I really wish that was true, because the dead tell me more than I ever wanted to know. My name is Rowan Gant. I’m just an average guy…well, except for the fact that I’m a Witch. That last part is the reason I’m the go-to-guy for the local cops whenever a murder is a little beyond the pale and they need a consultant with knowledge of the Occult. I didn’t actually want the job, but apparently the job wanted me. It all started when I was asked to decipher some symbols found at a crime scene. The police needed answers, and as it turns out so did I. You see, fate being what it is I had a personal connection to the victim when she was still among the living. It gets worse, though… The images in the crime scene photos gave me a sick feeling that the killer wasn’t finished. I could see—even feel—what was coming next, and it was not going to be good. In fact, it was going to be downright evil…

From the Inside Flap

Just Imagine... It's 2:17 AM. You've only slept 4 hours out of the past 48. You have a blinding headache that would make a migraine seem like a pleasant distraction. On top of that, the handful of aspirin you took for it 30 minutes ago is making your stomach churn in a very unpleasant way. Now, just imagine that even with all of that making your life a living hell, it doesn't end there. Instead of being at home where you can suffer in private, you are on the opposite side of town, standing smack dab in the middle of a disgustingly brutal crime scene--the third in as many days. Cops and evidence techs are watching with jaded expressions as you literally channel the final moments of the murder victim's life through your own mind and body, right before their eyes. The horror... The fear... The pain... You see and feel it all, as if your own isn't already enough... And, by the way, even though the cops asked you to be here, most of them think you belong in an institution, specifically one that is outfitted with padded walls. Yeah, I know... It sounds like some kind of nightmare, doesn't it? Well, welcome to my world. Be glad you aren't me because this curse that is my life doesn't stop at being a nightmare. No. It is all too real... My name is Rowan Gant, and I'm the unofficial Witch for the Greater Saint Louis Major Case Squad. I'd quit the job, but the dead won't let me...

"He was practicing," I sobbed, pressing the heels of my palms against my eyes, driving back the tears, and fighting to bring my breath back to normal. "The bastard was just practicing." "What the hell are you talking about?" Ben practically screamed. "Practicing what?" "Practicing the 'art' of flaying," I spat, pulling my hands away from my eyes. "He didn't even try to perform an invocation ritual. He was just teaching himself how to skin someone alive." "What the hell for?" "To prepare," I answered, climbing to my feet and steadying myself against the wall. "He's trying to learn...Most likely so that he can actually perform the invocation sometime in the near future. Trust me, he's not going to stop here. This is only the beginning."
