The story here is about a communal conflict over land ownership in which juju, rituals, and fetish acts were deployed as a way of protecting one's interest, but the aftermath was devastating and regrettable. But in the end, there was a lasting solution only after the parties had discovered the right way to settle their differences. The people of Ndiobu had lived in peace and oneness since the days of their great ancestor. The great progenitor bequeathed peace and oneness to his children. But in 1978, Ndioji, one of the clans of the village, claimed that one of the communal lands belonged to them. To protect what "rightly" belonged to them, they placed a juju on the land, but it was uncovered; eventually, there was anarchy. Unable to restore peace in the land, a communal conflict ensued; both parties fought by all means possible including fetishism. Well, Ndioji had broken the hedge, hence they were bitten by the serpents. Nemesis caught up with them. But the entire village also suffered a curse for deploying fetishism and rituals and sacrifices to the gods and the ancestors. But in the process of time, a generation that abhorred idols and fetishism arose, and by the application of the "Whiteman's religion," true reconciliation was achieved and the land was healed.
