Orchard House is the story of a middle aged woman's quest to improve the homeless situation in Dublin. Caroline buys a country house in Roscommon and invites a group of people living on the streets of Dublin to come and live there. However, the project is put into jeopardy by Mary, the ghost of a teenage girl who was incarcerated in the house at a time when it was a convent and Magdalene Laundry, and she is determined to make life difficult for the residents.Mary's sister, Siobhan has set up a protest group, campaigning to keep the house as it is and to preserve Mary's memory. Siobhan tries to stop Caroline's plans. She tells her that the previous owner of the house hung himself in the barn having been goaded by Mary, but Caroline refuses to believe her and dismisses all talk of hauntings as nonsense. She moves her group into the house. However, from day one, there are strange going ons, unexplained footsteps and mysterious sightings of a girl in a long dress. Not long after everyone has moved into the house, a series of terrible incidents occur. A resident with mental health issues tries to stab Caroline, a teenager loses his legs in a tragic accident and a middle aged man tries to hang himself. Worst of all, six-year- old resident, Cheryl swallows rat poison pellets and dies.Caroline doesn't want to sell up and have everyone return to homelessness, but she has a mammoth struggle on her hands. She must stop denying that the house is haunted and then she must somehow appease the spirit which is hell bent on causing havoc and distress. There is no doubt it will be a bumpy ride and touch and go for Caroline and the other residents to stay living in Orchard House.
