St. Winifred Mead is an English village full of colourful characters, from the disreputable and the disadvantaged to the loveable and the vulnerable. ‘Woman With a White Umbrella’ is about the spiritual conflict between the conservative and the contemporary faiths and other-worldly intervention into human events. In summarising it less is more because it can be read on several levels.Although described as a ghost story it is not dark or chilling; it speaks to the imagination in a way that evokes thought and urges greater understanding.Observational and humorous the storyline does not dip in energy and pace from start to finish.
