Kessa is a Nether Being, a Runner, tasked with keeping the beasts from the Nether in the Nether. Sometimes her job takes her topside where the dangerous human population resides. Kessa knows to keep her distance from these parasites at all costs, a rule she follows stridently until the night she is taken captive by the very creature she fears the most; a human man. Faced with her foe, Kess thinks she’s as good as dead. What could a parasite want other than to kill her? The answer isn’t something Kessa ever fathomed. In some ways, it’s worse than the death she thought was coming. Talon wants to go to the Nether and he’s determined to make Kessa take him, consequences be damned.
