A skeleton is found in the basement of a house in West Australia. The Australian police think they have discovered the remains of Jack the Ripper. Alex Packard is a modern day London policeman who has been shot by an IRA gunman and is now developing a serious drug habit. However, following a long rehabilitation he gets the opportunity to take newly discovered DNA evidence to Australia to compare with the DNA of the skeleton. Before he leaves London he talks to the granddaughter of JR in Broadmoor (forensic) Psychiatric hospital and learns that her great-grandfather was also a London policeman and that she knew he was Jack the Ripper. Overlaying these events is the ghost of Jack the Ripper who leads Alex down the path to complete madness and murder.
