Aleta Clayton is a divorced mother of two. On her first weekend without her children, her friends invite her to a wrestling event in Nashville, Tennessee. There she meets Ricky Bowen and quickly falls madly in love with him. Too late, she realizes appearances and words can be deceiving. She starts hearing disembodied voices and seeing apparitions. She becomes fearful in her own home. Is she being paranoid, or is someone watching her and her children? While her ex-husband, her neighbor, and the new man in her life are willing to do anything to protect her, what they don't know could get them all killed.
From the Inside Flap
It was nice to have the house back to her and the kids. She missed Scotty's presence, but her heart had moved on. She appreciated him being there for her over the past few weeks; he had made her feel safe. She still had concerns that Ricky would come back, but she had never expressed those concerns to anyone. Scotty and Gary told her he would move on with his life and forget about her. After all the time they had spent together, it was kind of depressing to think he could so easily forget it all, but honestly she hoped he did just that.Every noise in the night unnerved her now, even though she had never been a fearful person. Most nights she slept very little, just walking back and forth between the kid's room and hers. She knew the feeling was irrational, but she just couldn't put aside her fears that something was going to happen.Aleta tried to go about her daily routine and not focus on the feeling of impending disaster until nightfall. She borrowed money from her parents so she could buy long drapes to cover the downstairs windows she used to love so much. She became suspicious of any vehicle that slowed while driving by. She had an extra dead bolt lock installed on the front and back doors, but no matter what she did to ease her mind, she still felt like she was being watched after dark. One day when she and the kids went to the grocery store, she realized that her concerns weren't as irrational as she first thought.
