Modern life is defined by certain milestones: education, employment, the creation of a nuclear family and fulfilment through career progression. But when things don’t go to plan, we all need a little space to clear our heads. Chris Fording has overcome the passage into adulthood and family life, but one thing keeps eluding him: a meaningful and steady career. When the cracks in his life become a severance, he decides to retreat to his father’s cabin on picturesque Tamborine Mountain. Contemplating suicide as the panacea to his problems, he is besieged by spectres. These are neither figments nor fragments. The apparitions are real, with the ability to affect the environment. His father Boris has been missing for years and, he seeks answers as to his whereabouts and the significance of the property’s name La Mort. As Chris delves into his own pain he learns of his father’s nefarious activities, his wife’s two-facedness and the intervention of an ancient demon in his family’s affairs. In the midst of a mountain top paradise, Chris Fording must choose between his own desires and the consequences of getting what you want. The Fording clan are witnessing the power of choice, in a world organised along principles far different than standard theology suggests.
