The Asylum rises like a gray tombstone where it has stood for 150 years on a remote black rock island in Lake Superior. Almost empty, it still houses a handful of the most dangerous convicted killers, psychotic children, who have been isolated for treatment within its walls. Kara, a troubled psychiatric nurse, comes to the island in the desolate winter of the last year of the millennium. Arriving at the same time, is a new adolescent murderer, Neeley, a colorful and provocative young creole woman. As Kara gets to know the residents and befriend the staff, she finds herself pitted against both the elements and the chaos Neeley delivers as she calls on her black magic and her Voodoo gods to take power as the new millennium begins. Who will survive the blizzard and the blood-filled night?
