“A week in your life, for a week in mine.” I watched her taking the statement in, considering it. Years of dreaming and yearning depended on her one answer. The blood is the life, or at least that is what they say, for Scarlet this rings truer than for most. Her empty vampire life is spent siphoning the memories from her prey, experiencing a life she never knew. Until one day she concocts a plan to swap lives with a human girl named Jessica. Living as Jessica, Scarlet is able to experience for the first time what most of us take for granted; family, friends, school and, of course, her first kiss - one that does not involve drinking the person's blood for a change. But being human, as Scarlet soon learns, is not the picture perfect life she had imagined, darkness doesn't just live underground, sometimes it seeps into the lives of the living and to experience life you must also experience death, real death, not the kind you come back from. In the bowels of the Underdark Jessica, under the protection of the glamour spell, lives amongst Vampires, Witches and the Ghoul underclass. As the days go by in their week long adventure, both girls learn more about the worlds they are embroiled in; where good and evil is not so easy to differentiate and what really makes a monster.
