The Cave is a short story set in the Dordogne area of France around the area of the Lascaux caves. It begins with a man in a deep cave. All is ancient, full of memories and there are whispers that beckon him to go deeper into the cave. He is searching for some thing.On the surface is a traveller who has been walking for three weeks in the Dordogne, passing through medieval villages. He then hears noises, scraping sounds and the drip of water.The book then alternates between the man in the cave and the traveller on the surface.The man inside finds four rectangles of light and a mysterious figure who has been trapped for thousands of years.There is a bargain to be struck for freedom.On the surface the traveller finds signs towards a cave entrance including chalk like drawings on a tree.Eventually both will find their destiny and the truth will be revealed to them.
