Asylum Lake

When young mother Julia Albion arrives at Asylum Lake with her daughter during a late night storm hoping for sanctuary, she’s a half step in front of a monstrous pursuer and racing into something far worse. Unable to gain entry into the house her grandmother willed to her, she and her daughter are forced to spend their night in the boathouse. Unknown to Julia, someone else has taken shelter there while his injuries mend and he lies beneath the floor hearing Julia’s plight. The man in the boathouse is drawn to Julia and secretly watches her struggles while he searches for his own identity, often slipping into fevered dreams that reveal pieces of his own life, a history of Julia’s house and a horrible danger that still lurks.

From the Inside Flap

"Mercedes eyed the doors to the basement as they went passed."Mom, what's down there?""I don't know Sadie. That's just another place we're going to have to explore.""Is there clothes down there?'"I don't think so but I can't be sure of that until we've looked.""Can we see soon, mom?""Not today, okay? And you must promise me you will never try to see down there without telling me okay? You are to stay away from the basement unless we explore it together."Sadie reached both arms up to her mother who picked her up. Looking over her mother's shoulder as they traveled down the driveway, she regarded the basement doors, buried her head and trembled."'-ASYLUM LAKE

From the Back Cover

"Come into the light so I can see you. I don't like talking to the darkness.""I don't think that would be wise. I will scare you." "I don't think you could scare me. I'm getting pretty used to it. You frighten me more being in the dark.""I don't think so. I'm afraid you'll panic. I'm afraid you won't understand. I need time before I see anyone.""Show yourself. You're just making matters worse. Shall i call the police?"At first she heard movement but didn't see it. Then there was a human form stepping up from the cutaway in the floor. Julia brought the beam to bear directly on him.

About the Author

"I started telling stories publicly as a survival tactic when I would substitute teach. I would introduce myself to the class and shift into a story before they knew it. I'd stop at a crucial spot and they'd protest to which I'd say, "Get your work done and I'll finish it at the end of the hour." Classroom management!"-R G Ailes I'm a writer and an author and a life long psychotherapist and worked my way through school teaching drum and guitar and playing in bars, clubs, weddings and dances. I'm glad you've stopped by.
