The great horror - sci-fi writer, editor and literary agent Forrest J Ackerman made an office and museum in his famed Ackermansion in the Griffith Park area of the Hollywood Hills of California underneath the observatory. On Saturday nights he would have his closest friends and guests gather together in the upper residence area of his mansion to share pizza or Zankou chicken and sit in the great living room and take turns reading their favorite horror, fantasy and science fiction stories out loud.These stories became the Tales of the Dark Forrest and have been re-recorded with music and effects to be enjoyed by Ackerman's fans and fans of great horror, fantasy and science fiction stories everywhere.These books have been published to complement the audio series.In this volume is Highmeadow by Brian Forbes, along with The Mask, by F. Tennyson Jesse,a favorite story of Actor Boris Karloff'sWinner of the Saturn Award and the Award for outstanding Merit from National Public Radio, Highmeadow is a Hollywood Studio mystery based on true events. The story was originally published in 1979 along with a dramatic reading by Shakespearean actor William Wintersole on NPR (National Public Radio). The story was pulled at the request of one of the major film studios and  after the voluntary 20 year ban, is now back in print internationally. The original reading for NPR has been re-broadcast numerous times and is available along with this book.The Mask was written by F. Tennyson Jesse in 1912 and is a haunting and disturbing tale of two brothers in rural England who have desires for the same young girl. A love triangle develops but a horribly fearful mask becomes the third part of the love triangle. When the story was first presented as a play at the Royalty Theatre in London to rave reviews. It received the KKing's Medal of Honour from the Royal Society of Arts. Boris Karloff enjoyed this story and presented it to Forrest J Ackerman in the hopes of having it republished. Karloff included it himself in one of his story anthologies.All of these recordings in the series are available as MP3 downloads with book purchase.
