“I did someone a favor once.” So begins Io, the story of Richard Hayes, a man who kills the husband of the woman he’s having an affair with. As a consequence, Hayes is sent to the moon Io, a volcanic rock circling the gas giant Jupiter. As penance for his crime he is put in charge of a sanitation project on the moon, but gets more than he bargains for when a vampire is set loose upon the plant’s crew. This initiates a string of events that threatens not only Io, but mankind itself.
