Clowning (Welcome to Jawville)

Welcome to Tragic City, located next to Jawville in an alternate reality, where tongue-in-cheek madness abounds and more than a smithereen of contemplation regarding the esoteric aspects of its existence. Here all of the patients at the Tragic City Asylum, where the walls are as porous as sponges due to under-funding, believe themselves to be superheroes and spend their days acting out their fantasies. Here also in Tragic City adolescent punks dress as clowns and terrorize the citizenship. Clowning presents an eventful day in the life of Clark Dwayne who works part-time as a security guard at the asylum and part-time as a rent-a-clown for children’s parties. On this particular day his two jobs compete for his attention and his sanity. On this day he struggles to keep either job. He encounters elements of the paranormal as he is haunted by an ominous force, and he questions whether he is indeed losing his mind and soon to be a patient himself. He is repeatedly attacked by both patients and a punk clown. It’s non-stop action full of humor, satire, unexpected situations with unusual people, and sprinkled with a few subversions of horror tropes. This 41,509 word novel will entertain all who love mysteries or superheroes or alternate realities. This is a stand-alone novel that introduces the reader to the Lighter Realm, the Darker Realm, the Green Fog Realm, the Alone Realm, and the very mystical town of Jawville with the characters who reside there and in neighboring towns. Some of them now appear in several short stories and will be highlighted in other novelettes, novellas, and novels as well.
