Faces In Still Waters

When Kara Frazer was eleven years old, her little brother died in a tragic fire. Now twenty, she is still plagued from the guilt of his death. She moved to Michigamme with Samantha, her morally flexible best friend, to attend college. Upon her arrival, a grisly ghost of a little boy confronted her by the lake along with a swarm of fireflies-the harbingers of death. Between attending classes, conversing with her overbearingly religious schizophrenic mother, portraying the conventional wallflower at Sam’s outrageous parties; she becomes haunted by vengeful spirits. These spirits are blackened with resentment and reside within the murky depths of the lake. They begin their quest for her soul after she witnessed the reflections on the water’s surface depicting those about to die and her plans to stop it. As Kara vies for the attention of the shady middle-aged Englishman across the lake, she realizes she has a choice. Find the killer to save the souls destined to spend eternity at the bottom of the lake or succumb to its evil herself and become as black and hateful as the souls that reside within it. From the complexities of friendship, the lure of the older man, to the extent one would go to for self-preservation; Faces in Still Waters captures the consequences of holding onto guilt. “There’s a bit of darkness in everyone’s heart and it sneaks up on us at the most inopportune moments, when we are at our most vulnerable. Our guilt consumes us with its acidic nature and eats away at the soul.” If you enjoy campy horror novels, this is one you will surely enjoy.
